Now the gamer training is complete. This person plays on his/her own and tells you the stories of getting two headshots with one bullet.
The important thing now is to catch the person up on a history of gaming. I’m assuming this gamer hasn’t played anything since Genesis or Super NES, and when they played those systems they weren’t playing the Final Fantasy imports and they certainly haven’t downloaded any ROMs.
Important series to introduce the person to:
-Final Fantasy
-Chrono Cross
-Elder Scrolls
-Zelda
-Diablo
-Knights of the Old Republic
-Gauntlet
-Resident Evil
-Tomb Raider
-Half Life, and anything Valve
-Anything ID Software, specifically Doom and Quake
-Halo
-Duke Nukem
-War/Starcraft
-Age of Empires
Newer IPs to Watch Out for
-Mass Effect
-Little Big Planet
-Uncharted
-Gears of War
-Stalker
-Far Cry
A little bird always has to fly away eventually. You are not the “it” source anymore. They might be playing death matches without you and picking up games your broke ass can’t get yet. Don’t worry, this was bound to happen. Just know that in their internet ready gamer heart, you were their dial up connection. So save their gamer tags in your friends list and pown some noobs together.
Notes for Level 25-30 Gamer:
- Your gamer is probably cruising IGN, 1UP, Penny Arcade, and the Something Awful forums regularly. They will know what’s happening. It’s important to give them a history of gaming. You might not like all of the choices above, but I can guarantee they will come up in nerd conversations at some point.
It’s been a journey

Did you ever actually watch Captain N, if you have and your gaming protege becomes like the eponymous captain, you should delete them from your phone, friends list, and never speak to them again.
Well, excuuuuse me, princess.
