Dungeons and Dragons Weekly

Until video games pick up I’m going to update a 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons column either every week or every other week depending on when I get to play.
This weeks game was planned as a short session with a possible expansion pack if needed. You see, sometimes nerds get jobs that take away from important things… like defeating Azurel and saving the world.
I’m just kidding. Andy got a job a few weeks ago, and Kelson has been fighting with his. We’ve still managed to play about every other week. Andy was only able to finagle the morning shift off for this Saturday, so for the first time since we started playing, we had time constraints.
Being handicapped last time, the boys managed to take down a Hill Giant, granting them access to the dwarves. They were brought to the gates of the dwarven city, but no one knew how to get in.
I gave them two giant doors they couldn’t open on their own, a burning fire, a mechanical crane, thick muddy water, and a 20′X10′ mold with a humanoid shape in it.
Anyone could see the obvious puzzle solution here, but Doug was weary of creating a giant mud monster for fear of having to fight it. Andy on the other hand said screw it, and the monster was made. Turns out, the monster was nothing more than a giant teddy bear. After asking a few questions, the mud monster handed Andy a fist of dirt and send them on their way.
Originally I was really going to make everyone earn entry into the Dwarven city, but with time constraints I merely gave them two easy puzzles.
Again Doug didn’t trust the ease.
They came to the second puzzle. I gave them a gaping chasm with a door and a dwarf on the other side of it. I figured they would struggle for a moment and have to talk to the dwarf to figure it out. That is until James had to ruin it by watching Indiana Jones too much. Yes, I did the throw some dirt down and see the seemingly invisible bridge trick.
The dwarves agreed to join the fight. Turns out, last time the mist crawled across the kingdom was because a dwarf was to be the sacrifice, but ran away scared. The dwarves then impossed their own banishment until they could proove themselves again.
The dwarven king led our heroes to the king. They finally had physical contact with Rabidus, who was one hell of a fellow.
He was getting drunk alone watching two angels beat the living (err… rather etheral) hell out of each other. James jumped right on in. Again, Doug didn’t trust him… that’s right, Doug doesn’t even trust the obvious better God.
So Rabidus offered a game to our players. This game had a prize for anyone that survived till the end and a special prize for the winner. The catch was, everyone got a personality disorder the moment they entered the arena and had to switch character abilities.
The name of the game was “Kill the Blasphemers.” Rabidus collected Azurel’s worshipers before the mist covered the land and has been waiting to use them until now. You get one point for a blasphemer, three points for a big blasphemer, and five points for killing one of the other players. Whoever at the end had the most points, got the special prize.
At first, Doug formed an alliance with Andy because James has two attacks per turn. He rolled well on his first turn and killed two people. Then they saw Sallie go.
Sallie already is a bruiser, but she switched with James. James has a ton of 4 weapon damage. Essentially, Sallie was doing about 60 damage a turn to enemies that only had 10 HP.
Doug then tried to turn everone against Sallie. It worked for one turn until Sallie killed Doug in one attack. James and Andy backed off for a while and concentrated on getting points.
Eventually James took on Sallie again, and she killed him. The game ended soon after when Sallie and Andy called a truce.
James: 7 Andy: 7 Sallie: 15 Doug:0
It was a blowout.
The reward was +1 to A.C., Fortitude, and reflex for the survivors, Andy and Sallie. And Sallie got a special totem for winning. It was shaped like a monkey bending over with his cheeks puffed. Whenever Sallie thinks mischief this totem either farts or burbs.
Rabidus then offered to teleport the heros into Riverton, Vahn, or to a farm where Azurel was currently terrorizing a family. Doug convinced everyone to take on Azurel, so next session they are going to get dropped into his lap.
Wait two weeks for the exciting (possible) conclusion… same bat time, same bat channel.
