Did we really think it would turn out any other way? Honestly, I would’ve loved for it to turn out differently, but hell, they earned it. With so many blockbusters, so many big names, 2009 proved to be filled with gaming goodness.
For weeks nerds have battled for their games in the comment section and it all comes down to this.
2. Left 4 Dead 2- This game didn’t rank particularly high on anyone’s list, but was on everyone’s list. Anybody that’s anybody has killed hundreds of zombies in Valve’s sequel to their smash hit of 2008. Although some complain its not quite as addictive or fun, we still enjoy the hell out of it.
“I have a deep seeded love for both Valve and for zombies. It’s hard to imagine where they could go wrong with Left 4 Dead 2. Though, seemingly too soon after L4D, this game packs in more content than I could imagine. Although the new objective types are often the same, new situations start making me believe I’m finally doing something new. The new weapons hold up strongly and the diverse maps add a touch that the original never quite had for me. This is clearly the second best coop game of the year.” -Brett
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2- The boys at Infinity Ward have managed to become absolute gaming legends in
the past two years. Yes, all of their Call of Duty games have been great, but not until the addition of online multiplayer could they really show us what they could do. Relinquishing the somewhat fathomable plot from the first game, Infinity Ward wanted to prove that they could make you uncomfortable, bring the fight to your homeland, and essentially make a blockbuster movie that the likes of Bruce Willis should be at the helm of. Most of our readers tried to mock Modern Warfare 2 by being different from everyone else and putting it lower than number 1. Well guess what f*ck*rs? Punk is a fashion, everyone is shopping at thrift stores nowadays, and because you claim to love some band’s early stuff doesn’t make you an expert. You’re just another sheep. Modern Warfare for the WIN!
“The GOTY on most peoples list slides into a solid 3rd in my book. The anticipation was high and the game delivered in all the right areas, but my excitement was shortlived. 2 campaign playthroughs and an unlocking all of the spec ops held my attention a mere 2 or so weeks. Still a great game that deserves the credit it has and will receive.” -James
“Yeah, that’s right; I put it at #2! It really is a great game with a good story and great multiplayer. The story/single player is compelling and feels like a mix between a 007 movie and black hawk down. It is a little short but you are on the edge of your seat for those 5 hours. The multiplayer is where it is at. Infinity Ward has improved upon the formula of the first game buy adding new killstreak awards and a ton of new unlockables. I really like the “RPG” elements of the multiplayer and hope that more games pick up on it as I really like that I am working towards something while I am mindlessly blasting away people with my ACR. If you only get one multiplayer game this year, make it this one.” -Andy
“With his new fauxhawk, he rules.” -Robert (On Soap McTavish)
“Uncharted 2 barely beat out Modern Warfare. Really its not COD’s fault, Infinity Ward just decided to release their game when everyone else was. I didn’t get to slowly dine on the deliciousness that was Modern Warfare. Instead, I spent2 weeks playing nothing else, and then tried to cram Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed 2, and The Saboteur into the remaining parts of the year.” -Dan

The number one that was not many people’s number one. Looks like the year’s GOTY are the most widely played.
Still, wonderful game. Both of them in fact.
It wasn’t anyone’s number 1, but it was top 3 for pretty much everyone.
I was surprised to find that almost no one agreed on game of the year. I saw Fear 2, Uncharted 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Brutal Legend, etc all at the top of lists, but since no one really agreed all of those games fell several spots and the games everyone loved rose up.
It was my number one.
“but since no one really agreed all of those games fell several spots and the games everyone loved rose up”
and thats what makes this game of the year, everyone loved it and most of us are still playing it….
… and still yelling curse words at the screen.
I knew I shouldn’t have spoke in definites. Couldn’t remember the list. Marshall voted for game of the year. The rest of us suck at this whole voting thing.
