Dan,

I disagree on a game where you're alone in the basement with a headset on being even closely similar to the glories of a lan party, but I see the potential similarities to the classic shooters and their addictive game play and how those games encouraged the glories of the lan party.

What this article did for me however was cause me to relive the glory of not only lan parties but lan rooms and large amounts of energy drinks before they started adding vitamins and tried to explain to you how energy drinks are good for you.

Broadband killed the lan room at the same time that it killed lan parties. I have to say far too many of my hours in high school were spent in two different strip malls in a retail space with very dark lighting, sixty computers with sweaty males playing at zero ping in intense matches of counterstrike and the lone girlfriend bored and complaining.

There are few things better than dropping a camper in a game and then getting up at the end of the round and smacking him on the back of the head in person. The lame things people get away with in servers in the safety of their own home just aren't possible in a lan room and the rants of cheating are very easily disproved.

Your article essentially just gave me the itch to get the 30 port switch, the extra power strips and dust from crawling on the floor getting the computer out and drink energy drinks and play retro games until I pass out.

I really want a remake of the old police quest. Yes the memory of it was awesome, but the game was another of the type and tell your character what to do. I don't know how well it would hold up, but I definitely would purchase it.

I don't know why Lucasarts wouldn't. The process to port the games has to be cheap, am I'm sure they would sell enough of them as long as they released one every two months or so.

Playing the original version of the game definately took the allure out of replaying it... for me at least.

I thought the Monkey Island remake was a good thing. I actually never played the original (I know, I know) so this gave me a great chance to finally experience it in an easily accessible manner. I mean, how many "regular people" are going to go out of their way to try and find a working freeware version of it? I think this has not only opened the doors for people to finally experience it but also tested the waters for point and click adventures to make a return in some fashion. I played some back in the day but there were a lot of quality ones I missed. I would love to see lucasarts start to re-release these on XBLA and PSN so I could easily pick them up and play them, maybe even get a new one.

Whether we'd like to admit it or not, Small Brawl is certainly a Twisted Metal game. It says so right on the box, and it's a sure sign of brand cannibalization.

You know, I've always loved the Twisted Metal games. Even the disasters like TM3 and Black (Small Brawl is not a Twisted Metal game) and I look forward to the new one. But you're right about one thing, Twisted Metal was the next evolution to the Road Rash formula from the previous generation, and Road Rash was just an improvement over Carmageddon. Hitting people with chains and clubs wasn't going to cut it anymore and we saw that with the terrible Road Rash 3D. Twisted Metal added guns, destructable environments, and a pinch of story. Its still a fun game, but we should be able to move onto the next step by now.

As far as remakes go, I love 'em. Keep 'em coming.
